Wine Corner

It’s true, I love this wine. It is not an over-the-top, show-stopper; it’s sneakier than that. It makes you think about it, and want more. The aromas and flavors are bright but also rich, which is an extremely satisfying interplay. Not only do I think this wine is tasty as it is unique, but I also stand behind the practices and philosophies used to produce this simple yet masterful white blend. I feel lucky to have access to this small production wine ( under 900 cases), and introduce it to you by the glass or bottle.

The fresh and innovative Matthiasson family is first and foremost passionate about their unique Napa Valley grown varietals from three distinct southern vineyards. This vintage of their white blend combines the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc (59%), the rich nuttiness of Ribolla Gialla (20%), the roundness of Semillon(14%), and a clean kick of Tocai Fruiliano (7%). They call this their “new-world conception of a mythical ideal old-world wine”, drawing from several Italian and French styles found less commonly in Napa.

The winemaking team implements “simple yet careful” vineyard practices to create the purest expression of each varietal, then co-ferments them which allows for a graceful integration. The stand-out flavor profile of this wine is a testament to their hard work.

On the nose, the dominate aromatics are tropical and citrus fruits, with crushed almonds and honey. The richly textured palate shows ripe pineapple, subtle vanilla bean, and juicy pear liqueur leading to the long finish. This wine pairs perfectly with our new Artichoke Goat Cheese Dip, a cheese and charcutterie board, and a warm evening outside.
